Results!

My results for August exams were: (all marks are standardised marks, out of 100)

In-Course Assessment: 72 Pass

Written Examination: 73 Pass

Clinical Examination (OSCE): 69 Pass

Overall Mark & Result: 72 Pass

Centile ranking: 18

SSC's: 70 (pass with merit) That was my Diploma in the History of Medicine, which I passed by the diploma standards too :-)

So I was very pleased! I had thought that the written exams hadn't gone too well, (they were so hard!) and resigned myself to not doing too well, with a promise to myself that I'd work harder next year. Last year I did put a lot on my plate as well, what with doing the Diploma and being President of Sexpression.
But yeah, it worked out well! I wasn't actually far off a merit (15th centile ranking and above) so I think maybe I could try for that this year? I'd need to work a lot harder.

The other day I got this feedback on the written exams:

Mark 73 (as above), 19th Centile.
(So OSCE's etc must have dragged me up one place!)

Paper One– Data Interpretation & Problem-Solving, True/False MCQ: Mark 76, Ranking 31
Paper Two- SBA MCQ: Mark 76, Ranking 8
Paper Three– EMQ: Mark 67, Ranking 35

(Paper 1 is worth half as much as the other two.)
So it seems the second paper really helped me out there, and dragged me up! This is *really* weird as I thought that exam went terribly, I really struggled with it and thought the 3rd one went a lot better... I almost enjoyed it!
Perhaps it was the format of the questions- Single Best Answers are generally easier than Extended Matching I find.

Your Result Broken Down By Subject Group:

Group A: Urology, Medicine, Renal, Surgery, Endocrine & Nutrition.
Mark: 77 Ranking: 37

Group B: Neurology, Ophthalmology & Psychiatry.
Mark: 71 Ranking: 34

Group C: Respiratory, General Medicine/General Practice, ENT, Cardiology, Vascular & Radiology.
Mark: 84 Ranking: 12

Group D: Infection, Immunology, Histopathology, Chemistry, Pharmacology & Therapeutics & Public Health.
Mark: 75 Ranking: 16

It's kinda embarassing that I didn't do so well on Renal etc, seeing as I spent 3 months on a renal firm! It wasn't that well taught though, and I really struggle with it, all the processes and stuff. No surprise that my Cardio/Resp was the best, as that was taught to me in Lewisham and the teaching was *so* much better there.

So that's all good :-) I hope to remain in the top 5th of the year now I'm there. It'll help a lot for job applications!
These results have made me realise that I'll need to work a bit harder to do it though- seems I got lucky with one exam, so I need to improve on the rest of it as well.

However massive props to my brother, studying Medicine in Sheffield- he's just got his results back and he's in the top 15 people in his whole year! He works bloody hard, I think I need to take a leaf out of his book and get some serious studying done this holiday :-D
